Ribera del Duero and a Sunday roast – the very best of friends this winter with special celebratory dinners

at 1826 Adare & West at The Twelve

Wines from Spain partners with The Twelve Hotel and 1826 Adare to create two very different Sunday roasts with a difference this winter, showcasing the sensational wines from Ribera del Duero. The wines of the Spanish Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero pair perfectly with grilled and roast meats, where the smoky richness of the meat brings the cherry and plum flavours in the wine to the fore, and the long, firm tannins are the perfect textural match for the succulent meat.

On Sunday 23rd of October, enjoy a Sunday roast West-style at The Twelve Hotel in Bearna, where talented chef Martin O’Donnell and sommelier Fergus O’Halloran match a selection of exceptional wines from Ribera del Duero with a series of dishes inspired by the typical gastronomy of the Spanish region, but with an inimitable Twelve twist.

Featuring a centrepiece of barbecued local lamb, marinated in Ribera del Duero for three days, and cooked and carved on the balcony at West, other dishes will include roast pumpkin soup with chorizo oil, spiced seeds and sheep yoghurt, and Killary mussels and clam stew with braised tomato and paprika served with seaweed scones. The Ribera del Duero Roast at West begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday 23rd of October, the eve of Food on the Edge and costs €55 per person including wines, with a special overnight rate at The Twelve available of just €55 per person including breakfast.

On Sunday 13th of November at 6 p.m. Chef Wade Murphy of 1826 Adare (winner of the Georgina Campbell Bord Bia Just Ask Restaurant of the Year 2017) will be matching Ribera del Duero wines with fine local ingredients, emphasising the idea of place on a plate. The 1826 Adare feast will showcase the magnificent roast rib of prime beef he sources from local butcher Garrett Landers, and will include Sextons Doughmore Bay crab cocktail with spiced tomato gazpacho and coriander & apple salad and a spiced roasted pumpkin soup, crispy sage, bacon crumb and fried bread. Tickets cost from €50 per person and are available to book directly with the restaurant.

Wine has been produced in the beautiful wine region of Ribera del Duero since Roman times. Just two hours north of Madrid, there are nearly 300 wineries following the banks of the Duero River in the Castilla y León region, a flowing swathe of land that’s approximately 115 kms long and 35 kms wide. From the young ‘Joven’ wines to the great ‘Gran Reservas’, these are wines of exemplary depth and balance, powerful and elegant, and great wines for food.

Wines from Spain is delighted to co-host these showcase dinners in West at The Twelve and 1826 Adare, and has worked carefully with the finest bodegas across the Ribera del Duero region to choose stand-out wines to complement the two dinners to perfection. Guests will have tasting notes for each wine that is poured, making the evening both informative and delicious in equal measure!

Pre booking is required and places can be booked directly with the restaurants.
